Via BigDaikon - at D-Addicts you can find bittorrents of the NHK series Nihongo de kurasou. Three NNSJ (a Chinese guy, Korean girl and Brazilian guy) chat with a kimono-clad Japanese teacher and follow the progress of a Japanese speaking Filipina living in Japan and married to a Japanese salariman. The series is broken into episodes with titles like "Expressing Displeasure" and "Consoling". Looks half decent.
Thanks for linking to these. They're perfect for where I'm at in my Japanese studies. I've been here 8 months, came here knowing only how to count and introduce myself, do aisatsu, and write in hiragana and kanji, and talk about what I like. Not much. But I've been surrounded by Japanese teachers at the junior high where I work for months now, and surrounded by the kids as well, and studying hard, and these videos are not only great for added grammar and vocabulary, but also for cultural cues. One of the problems in learning another language effectively is that you also have to learn the culture. Things I'd say in America in some circumstances just won't do here, or might even be rude. So you have to learn the cultural rules as well, and this show does a good job of that as well as teaching handy phrases. Thanks!
